Apparently, Hasbro are trying to shut down Scrabulous, the online Scrabble application, for licence infringement – i.e. Scrabulous doesn’t have one.

I’m sure that Hasbro has a valid complaint, although as the Fortune article points out, there are plenty of other online Scrabble knock-offs that they aren’t going after. I dare say their decision to target Scrabulous has something to do with the Facebook application with 2.3 million active users.

I hope that some kind of deal gets worked out, because as a Scrabulous addict aficionado this would seriously impact my personal happiness on a day to day basis. I might have to start playing some other kind of online games. And who knows where that could lead

Super Mario has to be one of the greatest platform games ever written. Dave went and bought it online through the Wii-thing and I’m instantly taken back to about 1989 or something. Fan-tastic. The scary things are that a) I can still remember where all the hidden coins are and b) the levels with the big drops everywhere still make my stomach churn when I’m jumping over them.

Sideways scrolling dreams for me tonight!

I've been trying to track down a copy of Tetris Worlds on PS2 for ages – it's not available in shops anymore and for some reason I never bought a copy when it was available. Anyway, eBay was my friend. Unfortunately now that I've tried it, the game really sucks from a Tetris point of view. I mean, it's good because it's Tetris, but there are some odd things. Fortunately, they are going on eBay regularly for quite high prices so i can flog it off again.

What I did instead was buy a wireless Logitech gamepad for our Media Centre PC, load up a NES emulator, and track down a whole bunch of Tetris ROMS. I used to think that the Tetris game I used to play on our 8 bit Nintendo machine back in the late 80's was Nintendo Tetris, but after trying out a whole bunch of ROMS I've discovered that this is in fact incorrect, and the official Nintendo Tetris ALSO sucks (as does the Gameboy version). What in fact rocks (and what I had back then, on some pirate cartridge from Singapore) is an obscure Russian variation of the Nintendo version, which I have since found. The colours are prettier, the gameplay and music are awesome, and in between levels little Russian dancers come out and dance for you. The higher your score the more dancers you get. When they're finishd the song they bow and walk off again. It's the cutest thing ever. 

When the troika started I was instantly taken 17 years backwards in time. Back to a simpler time, when 1.79 mHz was plenty.

Anyway, I can't sit around here and natter all day. I have another two hundred-odd ROMS to try out. I got to level 23 of Arkanoid already, and I still have Dr Mario, Puzznic, and Ice Climber to play with.

We have a PSP, but so far games have been pretty average. I just can't get the hand of Tony Hawk, which is weird because I love all the other learn-the-combos sports games – SSX, all the dirt bike games, Kelly Slater Pro Surfer, etc. SSX on the PSP is great, but I've pretty much finished as much of it as I can be bothered doing. For some reason the "must-get-every-last-snowflake-point-possible" bug didn't get me on that one. 

So the other day Electronics Boutique were have a 2 for $50 sale, and Lumines Puzzle Fusion for the PSP was one of the sale items. This game looks Tetris-y enough to be dangerous. While I'm not going to fork out $79 for a Tetris clone which there's always the chance I'll hate, $25 sounded like the right price.

Took me a couple of days to get into it, but damn, this game is addictive! I think the music is meant to be a major part of it – all this trancey doof-doof stuff – but with the volume turned down it plays just fine. Only problem is, Dave played it a couple of times and got three high scores that I haven't been able to beat so far with about five times as much effort. That sucks, or more accurately, I do.

I'm off to try again.
