tablet toy goodness

the revenge

My new baby arrived today!

The photo above is an attempt to establish scale, against Dave’s 15″ notebook. This little beast has a 8.9″ screen and weighs in at just 1kg, making it a cross between an oversized UMPC and a small TabletPC. Machine name is “Leviathan” πŸ˜€

It’s very small and very cool. Notice the fingerprints all over it already.

  1. Very nice Kay, would have been nicer if it got in today! Note how the desktop has only 2 things on it – let’s see how long that will last πŸ˜‰

    Happy Birthday!

  2. Thanks Ashul! It wasn’t actually a birthday present, that was just a happy coincidence. I had to wait two weeks for stock to arrive. And don’t worry, the desktop will remain clutter-free – I’m one of those anally-retentive icon and folder cleaner-uppers πŸ™‚

  3. Wow, nice toy! I didn’t know you could get ultraportable tablets.

Leah looked at some tiny Sony Vaios which I would have absolutely adored, but were actually so small I couldn’t type on them. She’d have bought the Vaio if only their upgrades hadn’t been pathetically limited.

I borrowed a tablet from Griffith for a few weeks and dearly wanted to keep it. Probably the best configuration ever; all the guts were in with the screen. It had a super-slim keyboard which could be detached. If you spun it round and used the keyboard with the screen up like a laptop, none of the heat was on your lap!

  4. Hey Ben, I’ve had an Acer 10″ tablet for 4 years – you might have seen it at Web Directions, it’s a little on the battered side. I just love the convertible tablet concept because I’m definitely a scribbler πŸ™‚

The screen on this one doesn’t seem as responsive as my old Acer, but I’m hoping that’s a settings and drivers issue.

Having the guts on the screen side is an interesting concept – I don’t think I’ve seen one like that. This little Fujitsu doesn’t seem to get very hot at all though.

  5. Very nice πŸ™‚ Bring it to port80 this evening!
